The mission of Houston Racquet Club’s (HRC) Gingerbread Project is to raise funds for MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital Child Life Program.
The HRC Gingerbread Project was created and built by Houston Racquet Club's Chief Operating Officer, Thomas Preuml, CCM, CCE, with assistance from Pastry Chef, Rigo Gonzalez and the HRC Pastry Team. Mr. Preuml, originally from Austria, and a former Executive Chef, began building gingerbread houses in 1991. In 1993, he donated the display to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in honor of a family member who was undergoing treatment there. The smiles on the faces of the children who watched him set up the display is the reason he has continued building and donating gingerbread houses throughout the years. In 2008, Mr. Preuml brought his tradition to the Houston Racquet Club when he first arrived as the new General Manager. Since then, over half a million dollars has been raised benefiting the Child Life Program at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital.
This year's gingerbread house will be delivered to the hospital along with toys and monetary contributions from HRC members, staff, and friends. Additionally, gingerbread houses are donated each year by River Oaks Country Club, The Briar Club, Royal Oaks Country Club, Houston Country Club, San Jacinto College, and, new this year, Lakeside Country Club and The Forest Club, creating a truly spectacular display. In support of Mr. Preuml's efforts, the Board of Directors encourages you to make a monetary donation to this meaningful cause. We thank you for your consideration and support! *Your donation is a tax-deductible donation.
